Town of Dover – Highway Master Mechanic

The Town of Dover Department of Public Works is recruiting for a Master Mechanic. The position is under the general supervision of the Operations Superintendent and the direct supervision of the Highway Working Foreman.

The Master Mechanic performs skilled manual and technical work in the preventive maintenance and repair of a variety of motor vehicles and light and heavy equipment; inspects equipment for proper operating condition to ensure that all controls and safety devices are functioning properly. The Master Mechanic maintains the department’s inventory of parts purchased to ensure its accuracy. The Master Mechanic interacts with parts vendors ordering parts when needed, ensuring the quality of service provided by the vendors. The Master Mechanic performs other similar or related work as required, or as the situation dictates.

The Master Mechanic must be experienced in and able to operate heavy and light equipment, trucks, and other equipment used by the department for completion of projects. A High School diploma is required. A minimum of five (5) years of previous related experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy equipment, including welding. Knowledge of mechanics including electric and hydraulic systems is preferred. A valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License and a Hoisting Engineer’s License are also required.

The compensation range is $34.80 (Step 1) to $45.41 (Step10). Compensation package includes health insurance, generous vacation time and retirement benefits.
